FAQ’S
Where do I work?
I work online (using Microsoft Teams) and at the Upminster Sanctuary in Upminster.
How many sessions will I need?
Everyone is different but my approach is solution focused which means most clients should be seeing noticeable improvements in 4-6 sessions, you may see observable change after 1-2 sessions or you may need longer but the idea is that I want you to reach your desired outcome quickly. The work will continue outside of the therapy session which helps with moving you towards your goal quickly.
How much does it cost?
£70 an hour
3 x sessions for £180
6 x sessions for £350
How will I pay?
If paying by bank or card, payment needs to be made in advance of the session, using the bank details provided. Cash can also be accepted and will need to be given before the session starts.
Is there anybody that I cannot work with?
Unfortunately I will be unable to work with you if you have any the following conditions: Psychosis (Bipolar Disorder, Personality Disorder, Schizophrenia), or Epilepsy. I would also not recommend starting work with me if you are already working with another therapist as this can interfere with the work we do together.
What is the difference between the conscious and unconscious mind?
Your conscious mind is your active thinking, for example, when we make decisions such as what we will have for dinner or what clothes to wear. The conscious mind is the part of your mental processing that you are aware of at any given moment, which can include your thoughts and decision making. The conscious mind can be described as your short-term memory with your immediate thinking, powering critical thinking and planning. The unconscious is therefore what is happening in the background of the mind helping us navigate the world at pace, our motor skills are busy working away for our conscious mind to process a hundred different things. The purpose of our unconscious mind is to process automatically what our sensors are picking up to create a match – for example, when you are on autopilot driving to work and not having to think about the directions or tying your shoelaces. It is believed our unconscious is responsible for 90% of our behaviour. According to Freud, the unconscious stores all repressed thoughts and feelings. In day-to-day life our unconscious can be triggered by everyday occurrences, for example an invitation to a party might stir up feelings of social anxiety linked to a previous event in our childhood that we may not even be aware of on a conscious level. It can also lead to patterns of behaviour that are impulsive, one example being the potential to be overly sensitive to criticism, which could lead to outbursts such as snapping at someone whose intention may have been to help you. In such an event, the person may look back on the event and be left wondering why they behaved in such a way. Within cognitive hypnotherapy, I seek to understand the unconscious mind, so that we start to understand what unhelpful behaviours are stored and what we can work on to reframe the early memory that began this behaviour cycle.
What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy?
Cognitive hypnotherapy is a solution focused therapy that utilises the most effective tools for change from a wide range of disciplines such as Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Traditional Hypnotherapy. We see our clients as unique, with their own life experiences which means that my approach is tailor made for everyone I see.
What is hypnosis?
In our sessions, there will be no ‘pendulum swinging’ or ‘look into my eyes’ as a way of inducing hypnosis. During a technique I may ask you to close your eyes but you will be aware of what is happening and it will just be a conversation where I will speak to your unconscious mind to understand the root cause of your issue. Recent research suggests that 90% of our daily behaviour is driven by our unconscious mind. Your safety and well-being is my top priority so everything we do within the session will have your full consent.
What is an example of trance?
In Cognitive Hypnotherapy we believe trance as an everyday state of mind; much of the day we are in an altered state such as daydreaming. For example being in autopilot so going about a day’s task without thinking through every component such as getting ready in the morning to go to work – we are going through the motions and not considering each step of the way or when we drive to a familiar place and we arrive having forgotten part of the journey.
Does hypnotherapy work for everyone?
Cognitive hypnotherapy research in the September 2015 Mental Health Review Journal compared Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy with national results for the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme which suggested that, in an average of 6 sessions, 71% reported themselves recovered, compared to 42% of people using other IAPT therapies.

The evidence both from the study and the clients I have worked with shows strong results, however therapy and healing is subjective to every individual so there could be occasions when it doesn’t work for someone in the way they would have hoped.
Can Cognitive Hypnotherapy help with anxiety? And if so, how?
Absolutely, several years ago I worked with the Cognitive Hypnotherapist to help with my anxiety and it helped me a lot and contributed to significant change in how I felt about myself and how I was able to manage with day to day stresses. During our sessions we will learn where the root cause of the anxiety came from and then look at reframing this event/belief alongside providing techniques you can use to help calm you, outside of the therapy space.
How do I know you are the right therapist for me?
I offer a free 20 minute consultation chat, where we will both be given the opportunity to ask questions to ensure we are the right fit. My priority is ensuring you find the best possible therapist for you so if I am not the right fit, I can assist you with finding someone more suitable.
